Nilda Callanaupa, a native of Chinchero village of Peru with the mission to revive the traditional and ancient techniques of incan-weaving using hand spun wools dyed by hand with traditional natural dyes, formed a group of active weavers in Chinchero. As a result, in 1996 ?The Centre for Traditional Textiles of Cusco?, a non profit organization has been established to aid in the survival of Incan textile traditions. In fact, now in Chinchero the age-old weaving traditions are gaining ground and the young peoples are encouraged to learn these weaving skills for earning a livelihood so that the valuable eco-friendly Inca weaving traditions are preserved to pass on to the future generations.
