ABOUT THE IMAGE: The image was taken on 2nd May 2010 while visiting khayerbari (tiger rescue centre) adjacent to Jaldapara wild life sanctuary near my hometown .The person in the image is JANO MUNDA. She is from one of the tribes who were brought to this place to work as tea plantation workers by the British from the Chhotanagpur belt in India. Jano Munda , like many others, have taken to alternative earning after the closure of many tea gardens in the area .She spend whole day in search of snails and similar things in the river by khayerbari and sells them to earn a living. The can shown in the image when filled makes her earn about Rs .250. She particularly spoke of earlier days when she could get the can filled by the end of the day .But changing scenarios and the closure of tea gardens have also added others as her competitor. Now she hardly can get the can half filled. Jano Munda speaks ?SADRI ?.It is a common language developed through colloquial usage of various tribes in this region. Though the term ?entrepreneur? does not have any similar word in Sadri the most near translation of the phrase would be as written in the appropriate column.
