SEVEN Fund Announces the Grand Prize Winner of the
‘I Am an Entrepreneur’ Photography Competition
The SEVEN Fund is pleased to announce the grand prize winner of our 2010 ‘I Am an Entrepreneur’ photography competition. The grand prize of $1000 was awarded to Mr. Saikat Mukherjee of West Bengal, India. Mr. Mukherjee’s photo was chosen by a jury of his peers and the SEVEN Team as the favorite entry amongst ten finalist submissions selected in 2010.
Saikat Mukherjee of India contributed the winning photo. Mr. Mukherjee says of the photo:
“The photograph was taken in Purulia, West Bengal, India, in 2006 and depicts an entrepreneur in action. She is a basket-maker who not only makes the baskets, but also goes to local markets traditionally called ‘hut’ to sell them in order to help her family.”
“This photo literally and figuratively puts women at the center of enterprise solutions to poverty. While bands of raw material radiate outward from her, it shows the beginning and end of the creative process. Only her skill and imagination are required to create something of function and beauty.” said Michael Fairbanks, Co-Founder of SEVEN Fund.
Entrepreneurs create products, services and jobs. They expand economies, improve people's lives, provide employment (high and rising wages) and bring about competition. A competitive environment, in turn, gives rise to efficiency, meritocracy and further innovations and entrepreneurial drive.
The potent combination of entrepreneurship and technological innovation can forge an environment that is conducive to further enterprise, involving even government policy in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.
