Fictitious Job Offer Scam

Cambridge, MA – June 23, 2011

The SEVEN Fund has been notified of a series of scams being perpetrated in our name. Specifically, individuals are receiving job postings for an assistant or other position.  These are not legitimate job postings.

SEVEN Fund does not ask prospective employees to pay a fee to be considered for a position, nor to receive a job offer. We do not authorize contractors or other agencies to seek a fee on our behalf.

Please be advised that there are individuals who claim they are under a contract with SEVEN or a subsidiary to locate prospective employees for work on projects. These offers usually are sent via email and will typically advise the victims they either have been hired by the company or may obtain employment with the company, and for a fee, the individual will process the victim’s employment papers, tender offers, job applications and work permits.

The individuals will commonly use the name of a person employed by or affiliated with SEVEN, obtained from online sources, in order to make the offer appear authentic. Victims are usually requested to send their fees, via a personal check or a money order, to a post office box either in the United States or another country. In some instances, victims are promised or receive checks to cover relocation expenses. Such promises and/or checks are not made or generated by SEVEN or in any way associated with SEVEN.

This particular kind of activity is called Advance Fee Fraud or 419 Fraud. These are not legitimate SEVEN job offers and will not be honored by the company.

If you should receive such an offer, please report the matter to the U.S. Secret Service.  We would also appreciate receiving a copy of any email correspondence or job posting that you receive, as we are currently taking ongoing actions with respect to these matters.

Entrepreneurs create products, services and jobs. They expand economies, improve people's lives, provide employment (high and rising wages) and bring about competition. A competitive environment, in turn, gives rise to efficiency, meritocracy and further innovations and entrepreneurial drive.

The potent combination of entrepreneurship and technological innovation can forge an environment that is conducive to further enterprise, involving even government policy in supporting entrepreneurship and innovation.
