Graduate Winner: William E. Kalema

William E. KalemaWilliam E. Kalema is a junior studying History at Northwestern University. He is interested in the challenge of governance facing Africa, mobile phone technology and entrepreneurship, the Rule of Law in developing countries, and commercial law in Africa. After his freshman year, he interned at the International Law Institute—African Centre for Legal Excellence in Kampala, Uganda. While there he worked on several projects, including helping to set up a Legislative Drafting and Parliamentary Systems Diploma Program for newly appointed Parliamentarians from South Kordofan, Sudan. William, along with several colleagues, directs the Sudan Good Governance Fellowship, an initiative to bring five Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM) government officials from South Kordofan, Sudan to Chicago on practical training program to enhance governance capacity in the region. He has also interned with Pan African Capital LLC.
